My dear friend Ingrid & I held our first furniture painting workshop together on June 18th. It was a bring your own piece class, where we taught students how to: Prep, Paint, Distress, & Seal their furniture pieces.
We had just as much to learn as our students because for us it was a chance to figure out what worked & what didn’t. One thing is for sure, we had an absolute blast and want to continue our joint business venture together, hence “Two Fridas Painting Workshops” has officially been created…We even have a Facebook Page set up for you to learn all about our upcoming classes, as well as get signed up if you would like to attend one. We really focused on making this both a fun & informative workshop with no shortage of food, I might add!Oh, and let’s not forget about the Mimosas 🙂
We had kits for each student that they chose their own paint colors for.And here are a few of our student’s furniture pieces “Before”The paint and products we use are from the Vintiques & Heirloom Traditions Paint lines. They’re high quality products that are very easy to work with and non-toxic.
Students worked on prepping their pieces by cleaning them first and removing any hardware they didn’t want to paint over. After discussing what look each student wanted to achieve/create they went to work painting.Different colored waxes and a little distressing will create an aged and weathered look to your pieces. In between drying times I showed our students how to apply a new line of rub-on transfers…And here’s a short video tutorial taken during our workshop:
I refinished my bench with Rainy Day, by Heirloom Traditions and added the rub-on transfer, by Iron Orchid Designs.
Did I mention we had mimosas 😉
And we had Abe from Oyler Photography taking photos, while he participated in our furniture painting workshop.
Here are a couple of Before & After photos submitted by some of our students. I’ll update with more pic’s as soon as we receive the rest of them. I’d also like to thank our students for being patient, genuinely kind, and tons of fun!
After-Refinished with Espresso & Venetian: Almost done, transfer will be added to the top & photo will be updated. This is Synergy over Venetian: After refinished with Bugle Boy & Gold Accents:

That’s all we have for now but we are working on a possible Wine & Signs workshop next, so if you’re interested in attending let us know 🙂
