When I was asked to refinish some furniture pieces to help raise money for Hounds Helping Heroes Heal my response was, “yes, but surely we can do more!” I then contacted my General Manager & friend Elke Nutterfield, who is always ready to help our Veterans and animals, love that about her. We then worked together to set up an actual event, with the help of many of the vendors inside the Richardson Mercantile who generously donated items for this cause. I also contacted my friends at Treasured Pals Spaniels to join our event & help find some of their rescue dogs a forever home. It’s wonderful when people pull together for such a worthy charity.
H4 – Hounds Helping Heroes Heal is a program that helps veterans with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and/or Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) heal through the aid of a specially trained service dog provided for free. Statics show that 82% of patients with PTSD have a decrease in symptoms after being paired with a service dog. The dogs are rescued from shelters, so it’s really an ideal situation for all involved.
