A Game Changing Product For Leather!

Ladies and gentlemen I’m super excited to announce that this game-changing new product is finally available to the public! If you follow me on Facebook or Instagram then you know I’ve been talking about ReLuv Leather Renew, by Heirloom Traditions, for a couple of months now. I have a few people that have been stalking me over this product and I don’t blame them one bit! It’s available in 3 colors: Mahogany, Ebony, & Chestnut Brown.

Okay, so let me back up a bit…I was in my local ReStore one-day snapping pic’s of various furniture pieces and posting them to my paint group when I posted a photo of this sad leather recliner & matching ottoman (see below). My creative director immediately told me to purchase it (I totally thought she had lost her mind) because she had a leather product in the works and that this beat up recliner would be the perfect test piece.

So, I went to purchase the recliner and ottoman listed for a whopping $20, for both pieces mind you, and it was another 25% off of that! I got both pieces for $15.00 y’all!!!! Here’s my actual receipt: And here it is after applying the ReLuv Leather Renew in Chestnut Brown. Pretty amazing right?! Go ahead, scroll up & take another close look at the Before pic…I’ll wait 🙂 Did you see that huge scratch on the right inside arm? Bet you can’t see it now because this stuff is AMAZING! For the record, my husband actually applied the last coat of ReLuv because long-story-short I applied the first coat & I agreed to let him try it on the back ONLY, when he apparently lost all control and couldn’t stop himself from doing the whole chair, true story! Ha. Anyhow, I’ll walk you through the process below.First, make sure you clean your piece. The manufacturer suggests wiping it down with acetone, letting it dry, and then proceeding with the ReLuv. I did not use acetone but I made sure to wipe it down with a damp cloth to remove any dirt/dust/debris.

We used a total of two coats of Chestnut Brown. I used a paint brush to apply mine and it was trashed after I finished, so I strongly suggest using a disposable applicator. My husband, who was smarter than I was, used a Grouting Sponge we had. He just cut a piece of it off and went to town. These cost about $1.50 at Home Depot or Lowes. You could also use a foam brush, but a little bit of the ReLuv goes a long way, so start with a small amount on your sponge or brush.

You want to apply thin coats a few hours in between each, with two coats suggested. We did not wipe any of it off during application, as I have yet to find a true lint-free cloth, but we were applying thin coats and didn’t find it necessary.
Now let me just warn you that this is an oil based product and it is smelly, probably worse for me since I have the nose of a bloodhound (no joke), but I’m pretty sure my husband felt the same way, so take it outside or to the garage if you have one to apply it. Also, be sure your outside temps are above 50 degrees so it can dry properly. If you want to apply it indoors be sure you are in a well-ventilated room. We used our garage and let it sit for a good 48 hours after for it to fully dry. It may take less drying time, but be sure to touch test it…if it feels at all tacky it’s not dry.

Some of the piping is missing from the top of the seat cushion, where it wraps around the arm but adding the ReLuv helped to conceal the damage. We also had a dark spot on the headrest area that probably could have been fully covered with adding an additional coat of ReLuv, but I didn’t want the chair to be too dark & it blended in enough for me. I also liked that it still had some of the original color coming through vs one solid color all over, but it’s totally up to you to decide on how many coats you like. Take your time & work in sections, it’s like painting and applying it is really simple, just ask my husband 😀

We’ve been using the chair for about a week now and haven’t had any issues. It will NOT rub off on your clothing and it will NOT crack, it flexes and feels just like the original leather and I’m happy to report that there aren’t any odors once it’s completely dry.
